The Richmond Progressive Alliance Endorses Mark Rendón for State Assembly in AD-14

The Richmond Progressive Alliance (RPA) has endorsed Mark Rendón (G) for State Assembly in Assembly District 14. The RPA has endorsed and supported Green Party candidates in the past, notably Gayle McLaughlin. This is a significant development that demonstrates the campaign’s accelerating momentum, particularly with political movers and shakers with deep roots in Richmond and the East Bay. 

Rendón has a long history of political organizing in the East Bay as well. A music teacher who taught in the Oakland Unified School District for 29 years, he is well-acquainted with fighting for the rights of his students and fellow workers. He was a key organizer in getting the Oakland School District to pass the Integrated Pest Management Plan, which banned the use of toxic pesticides on school campuses. He was also an elected leader in the Oakland Education Association and served in various capacities, including site representative, secretary, and treasurer.

The RPA was likely eager to hear about Rendón’s volunteering with the California Nurses Association on their CalCare campaign. This is a major difference between Rendón and the incumbent, Assembly member Wicks (D), who has voted down CalCare in the state legislature. 

The progressive coalition behind Mark continues to build as more endorsements roll in along with more volunteers and donations to his grassroots campaign. “I was really hoping for the RPA’s endorsement,” Rendón said. “I’m extremely grateful for their support.”
