About Mark
Mark Rendón was born in Sacramento, CA, but grew up in Washington, DC. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Manhattan School of Music. When he returned to CA, he received his Master’s in Education Administration at UC Berkeley.
For 29 years, he was a Music teacher in the Oakland Unified School District and served in the Oakland Education Association as a site rep, Executive Board member, Treasurer, Secretary and Representative to the California Teachers Association State Council where he founded the Green Party caucus and almost got the CTA leadership to submit a statewide ballot to increase taxes on the wealthy and corporations.
In 2001, he organized the teachers and parents of his students in the action to persuade the Oakland USD to adopt an Integrated Pest Management Plan, which it did adopt, thus ending the use of toxic pesticides in all of the public schools in Oakland.
